WorldCountryData is a free, open-access reference for country-level statistics. We compile data from three authoritative sources into clean, comparable profiles for 195 countries, covering population, economy, geography, and quality-of-life indicators.
We exist to make verified country data accessible to everyone: students, researchers, journalists, travelers, and anyone curious about how nations compare. Every number on this site traces back to a named, linkable source.
Unlike AI-generated summaries that can hallucinate statistics, our data pipeline pulls directly from institutional APIs and datasets. If a value is missing from the source, we show a gap instead of guessing. Accuracy matters more than completeness.
Every indicator on WorldCountryData comes from one of three institutional sources. We do not use scraped data, crowdsourced estimates, or AI-generated values.
GDP, GDP per capita, life expectancy, infant mortality, literacy rate, unemployment, inflation, CO2 emissions, and GDP growth. Over 1,600 indicators available; we use 12 core metrics.
Population estimates, historical population data (30-year trends), demographic projections, and population growth rates for all UN member states.
Country names, capitals, regions, languages, currencies, borders, timezones, coordinates, flags, and ISO codes (alpha-2 and alpha-3).
Data Collection
Automated scripts query the World Bank API, REST Countries API, and UN Population Division datasets. Raw responses are cached locally as JSON.
Validation
Each data point is checked for type, range, and completeness. Population values must be positive integers. GDP values must be non-negative. Missing values are stored as null, never zero.
Normalization
Country names and codes are normalized to ISO 3166-1 (alpha-2 and alpha-3). Currencies use ISO 4217 codes. All monetary values are in current US dollars.
Static Generation
Validated data is compiled into static JSON files that power 195 country profiles, 19,000+ comparison pages, and 12 ranking tables. Pages are rebuilt when new World Bank data is published (typically once per year).
